UnStrander 2.0 for Mac

702 recordings. One readable library.

UnStrander listens to every Voice Memo, names it, classifies what it contains, tags the feel, and writes out the words — then puts the whole thing behind a single row of filters.

Local audio analysis. Your original Voice Memos remain untouched.

It's difficult like we read on the first page.

Now I know you agree.

It'd be easier if you didn't mean that much to me.

Yeah, it'd probably set me free.

Memory, my memory, won't you please speak it to me?

But not too good to feel.

Lie to me, oh lie to me, but then that's what got me here.

Lies, lies and love.

The new interface

Four decisions that made the library legible.

Tag-first sidebar

All audio sits at the top, with every tag — drums, licks, open G, sad lyric — counted beneath it, so you browse by feel instead of filename.

Classification filters

One row of pills: all, lyrics, sung, guitar, spoken, music, keyboard, drums. Tap one and the library narrows instantly.

Analyze on your terms

Pick how much of the library to process, see the size and analyzed counts up front, then hit Process Files and walk away.

Transcription without clutter

Words only — no timestamps, no speaker labels. Long takes collapse behind Show more so the list stays scannable.

How it works

From stranded recordings to a working idea bank.

  1. 1

    Discover

UnStrander reads the Voice Memos synced to your Mac.

  2. 2

    Analyze

It detects singing, speech, guitar, keyboard, instrumental music, mixed content, and background speech.

  3. 3

    Transcribe

Spoken takes are transcribed by Apple's on-device speech model, sung takes by Whisper — both on your Mac.

  4. 4

    Name

UnStrander suggests a descriptive title—or uses an honest label such as “Guitar part” when there are no useful words.

  5. 5

    Rediscover

Search, filter, listen, edit, tag, review, and return to the ideas worth developing.

Private by design

Your lyrics never leave your Mac.

Listening, transcription, and titling all run on your own machine. No audio, no transcript, and no lyric is uploaded anywhere.

The only things that touch the network are activating your license and checking for an update. Your unfinished songs stay yours.

UnStrander reads the Voice Memos library without modifying it. Titles, transcripts, categories, tags, and triage state live in UnStrander’s separate local workspace.

  • Transcribed on your Mac

  • Titled on your Mac

Current requirements

What UnStrander needs, and what it will not pretend to do.

Requirements

  • Apple silicon Mac
  • Voice Memos synced through iCloud
  • Full Disk Access
  • A downloaded local Whisper model
  • A license for the title service

Current boundaries

  • Rough singing can produce partial or imperfect transcripts
  • Long recordings may be titled from a sampled section
  • Automatic processing applies while the watcher is running
  • UnStrander favors an honest label over a confident but invented title

Your next song may already be in there.

Turn the recordings hiding behind generic Voice Memo names into a library you can search, understand, and use.

Built for Apple silicon Macs.
