Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 21, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Nudgebase (“UnStrander,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use UnStrander — a macOS application that turns your iCloud-synced Apple Voice Memos into an organized, searchable library of musical ideas, and the related website and title service (together, the “Service”).
UnStrander is designed to be private by default. Your recordings are analyzed on your Mac, and your audio is never uploaded to us for analysis, transcription, or titling.
1. Information We Collect
UnStrander is a local-first application. The large majority of your data — including your recordings and their transcripts — stays on your Mac. The limited information involved in providing the Service is described below.
- Recordings and audio. UnStrander reads your iCloud-synced Voice Memos library on your Mac to analyze and transcribe it. Audio analysis and transcription happen locally on your device. Your audio files are not uploaded to us for analysis, transcription, or titling.
- Transcript text for titling. When you generate a title, UnStrander sends a limited amount of transcript text — not the recording — along with an optional acoustic hint and the recording’s duration, to our title service to produce a suggested title.
- Beta access information. If you request beta access on our website, we collect your email address, and we automatically record your browser’s user-agent string and the time of the request.
- License information. If you activate a license, we process your license key and a device (instance) name — for example, “UnStrander on” your Mac’s name — through our licensing and payments provider to activate and validate your license.
- Optional device sync. If you enable device sync, audio you send from another device is temporarily relayed through our cloud storage so it can reach your Mac, then deleted after transfer (see “Data Retention”). This is the only case in which audio passes through our systems, and it happens only if you turn the feature on.
- Usage and technical data. Our title service and website may process basic technical data such as your IP address (used transiently to rate-limit requests and not stored alongside your other information), timestamps, and request metadata needed to operate, secure, and debug the Service.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide the Service, including generating suggested titles from transcript text.
- To activate and validate licenses and to manage beta access.
- To relay device-sync audio to your Mac, if you enable that feature.
- To respond to your requests and send service-related messages, such as license or beta updates.
- To secure, maintain, debug, and improve the Service, including rate-limiting and abuse prevention.
- To comply with legal obligations.
3. Local Processing and Your Recordings
Audio analysis, transcription (using a local Whisper model), categorization, and search all run locally on your Mac. Your audio is not uploaded to us for analysis, transcription, or titling.
UnStrander reads the Apple Voice Memos library without modifying it. The titles, transcripts, categories, tags, reviewed status, and trash state that UnStrander creates live in UnStrander’s separate local workspace on your Mac — hiding or trashing an item in UnStrander does not delete the original Voice Memo.
In normal use, the only content sent off your device is the limited transcript text used to generate a title. Audio passes through our systems only if you enable the optional device-sync feature described above.
5. Data Retention
Your recordings, transcripts, and the rest of your UnStrander library are stored locally on your Mac and are retained until you remove them or uninstall the app.
Transcript text sent to generate a title is used to produce that title and is not retained by us to build a profile of you. Beta-signup records are retained until you ask us to delete them. Device-sync audio is deleted after it reaches your Mac and, as a failsafe, is removed from our cloud storage within about seven days. License and payment data is handled by our licensing provider according to its own retention policies.
6. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we handle, including encrypted connections for data in transit. Because UnStrander keeps your recordings and transcripts on your own Mac, their security also depends on the security of your device. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your Rights and Choices
- Access or update your beta or license information.
- Delete your local UnStrander workspace at any time by removing it or uninstalling the app.
- Choose whether to use the title service; if you do not generate titles, no transcript text is sent to us.
- Leave the optional device-sync feature off; if it is off, no audio passes through our systems.
- Request deletion of the beta or license information we hold about you.
To exercise these rights, contact us at the email below.
8. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and revise the “Last updated” date above.
